The "before" image does not provide enough information to cue to reader where they should focus their attention visually. The person in the image is looking straight at the viewer and has his eyes closed, which provide no visual cue for the viewer as to where they should focus. In contrast, the "after" image I created uses a human face directly staring at the quote that the graphic is trying to direct focus towards. The use of eyes in images as a visual cue has long been used in graphic design, and I think it fits quite nicely in this context to cue the read as to where they should look.
