Before and After #9: Grouping
Grouping is an important visual design element that quickly and easily allows the reader to see and understand how information is related and organized. This is especially important in educational environments in which the end goal is for knowledge to be communicated and retained. In the "before" imagine, the description of the two types of twins and the corresponding graphic are separated. Upon first glance it would be easy for the reader to mix-up the information. In my "after" imagine, I grouped the two elements by combining the corresponding text and graphic and clearly separated the groups with a line. Although simplistic, this example shows the importance of grouping related information whenever possible in an informational graphic.
